The autumn season has been a successful time for SHORE - The Scottish Seaweed Co. — including concluding a record-breaking harvest at the end of October, thanks to strong spring tides and seaweed-friendly weather (read: blustery!).

It's a great sign of things to come, and SHORE's seaweed harvesting work along the Scottish coastline recently garnered attention from national news media.

Seaweed Farms in the Spotlight

SHORE were featured recently in an article by The Mirror focusing on the seaweed farms that are emerging across the UK's coastlines — detailing the environmental and nutritional benefits of algae, and the fast-growing aquaculture industries across the country.

Peter Elbourne, Managing Director Supply & Operations, offered perspective on seaweed and the need to learn, and learn quickly: “There isn’t one seaweed that’s good for everything. Some are more similar than others but there is such a variety that you have to have knowledge of the raw material to be able to use it properly.

We had to learn everything from scratch. A lot of effort from a lot of people, none of whom had ever done anything like it before.”
