Our production process is specifically designed to reduce waste where possible, but we acknowledge that small amounts of wastage exist.
Completely eliminating disposal of waste to landfill and reducing wastage of food to an absolute minimum is an ambition of ours, and we are on our way to achieving that - recently, we have made a number of positive steps.
Our processing facility finds a use for every single part of the fish – from the head to the tail, and everything in between – and any cuts of Scottish salmon and trout that are not to be sent to retail are donated to community groups to help feed those who need it.
We recycle everything that can be, on-site, and achieved our target of zero waste to landfill by the end of 2020. We have achieved this by using recyclables and re-usables, and reducing other materials to the absolute minimum.
We re-use plastic materials where possible, and try to minimise the amount we have to use – introducing re-usable aprons and earplugs with less plastic, alongside recyclable boxes for transporting fish and reducing the plastic used in pre-packed trays.
As part of our ongoing commitment to responsible processing and overall operation as a business, we aim to become a carbon neutral business by the year 2030, and all of our sustainability initiatives are directed towards this goal.
Our first major milestone will be achieving Zero Waste to Landfill by the end of 2020, and in the future we hope to mark more progress as we move towards a greener, cleaner Aquascot.
